Who Are You?
graphite pencil and gouache
12" x 16"
'Who Are You?', similar to my self-portrait 'In Different,' is about the disassociation of my body from my artistic being. Things that I own, like the shoes, are more part of me than the portrait, which is not my own face. In the piece, I also have a list of my attributes for 'why I am the worst,' but my intellectual content is a shopping list. By having a shopping list of my pieces, I am further detaching myself from my art pieces. I can not recognize the good I create so I separate myself from my work. 'Who Are You?' is a study in the way I view myself in the world, and everyone can relate to internal struggles when viewing themselves.
